This
is the twelfth and final episode in a series about Maximilian, a boy
with magical thinking abilities. Writing about him and his friends has
been a source of my daily entertainment and now it is time to move on.
He liked sounding wise beyond his years. Even if it was a quote that
Willow knew. “That is what Willow said,” Suzy replied, less impressed
with his wisdom. And the future happened to be Saturday. She did not want to spend it
with Horse. Suzy went shopping on Saturday. She did not want to waste
a moment doing anything else. She remembered tomorrow was Saturday after promising Horse she would
spend the future with him as long as it was tomorrow. “I promised to spend the future with Horace, but tomorrow is
Saturday,” she said to Willow. “What will I do?” And then she smiled. “Spend the future with Horace, or shop?” Suzy held up her
hands as if she were pretending to decide. Suzy giggled. Willow giggled too. She realized that she had become far too serious
about Maximilian. She had decided to just enjoy having him as her boy
friend and not waste time thinking about spending their future together. “I am shopping today.” Suzy replied to Horse. “I will spend tomorrow with you just like I promised,”
she added brightly. “Well, uh, uh,” Horse started to say, suddenly at a loss
for words and wisdom at this surprise turn around of events by Suzy. “I am going shopping with Suzanne,” Willow said to Maximilian. He nodded in agreement. He had not given any thought to spending their
future together on Saturday and he knew she had not either. “I am just going to enjoy having you as a boy friend and not
think about spending our future together,” she had told Maximilian. After Suzy and Willow left to go shopping, Horse turned to Maximilian
with a worried look. “I thought Suzanne really liked me. She promised yesterday to
spend today with me because it would be tomorrow. I am very confused.”
“She really likes shopping on Saturday more,” Maximilian
said. “Suzy does not want to spend the future with you.” “Or be the mother of my children,” Horse added, looking
too serious. “The Sound of Music is over, Captain Von Trapp, ” Maximilian
said, teasing Horse just a little. “Yah, and Suzanne is now Annie in Annie, and I do not have a
part in that musical,” Horse observed wisely. “Want to go shopping?” Horse asked, now grinning. Maximilian felt pleased. He had thought that comment, hoping that it
would help Horse be silly again. He liked Horse better that way, more like the old Horse. It was more
fun that way. He sighed with relief. Horse was now smirking. “I want to spend today with you. Yesterday, today was tomorrow
and tomorrow is the future,” Horse added. “I have to spend my future with you?” Maximilian said,
pretending to throw up. “I would rather dissect frogs so I can
be famous brain surgeon.” “You are such as waste in this moment,” Horse said, laughing.
“There is always tomorrow,” Maximilian replied. “It
will be better.”
