As I walked into the McMullen Gallery on the night of the opening
reception I felt a surge of pride at what we have accomplished. Everything
looked splendid. Guests were already browsing. I heard positive comments
quietly whispered among the viewers. I reminded myself to relax and
enjoy the evening.
Tears welled in my eyes when I saw that my son David and his wife Shannon
sent flowers. They could not be present because they were awaiting the
imminent arrival of a new baby. Friends and colleagues from BridgePoint
Center for Eating Disorders also sent their good wishes along
with flowers.
Seven of the nine artists were present. Kristin Miller traveled from
Gabriola Island, B.C., Ilse Anysas-Saulkaskas, Sheila Niles, Mary Anne
Kilgannon, Margie Davidson, Jayne Willoughby Scott and I joined her
in celebrating our accomplishments. We missed having Jean Brandel and
Janet Armstrong with us.
Photographer Mario Pietromala took informal photos of the opening. His
interest in Inside the Dress has continued to warm my heart.

Surrounded by family
and friends it was indeed a grand evening!

The
project entitled, "Inside the Dress" -
nine women artists exploring their creativity, has taken a year to
complete, culminating in this exciting exhibition at the McMullen Gallery,
Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. My earlier essays talk of parts of our collective,
yet individual journey, so if you haven't read them I hope you will enjoy
some shared insights into what has been a remarkable process for us all.
