Coreen Zerr - Artist statement:
I have always worked creatively with fabric, having taught myself
to sew my own clothes as a girl. In 1991 I discovered quilting
and learned the traditional methods by hand. Those lessons taught
me patience and precision in my construction techniques. A local
guild challenge in 1993 inspired me to create my first original
landscape and so began my true passion.
Living and photographing on picturesque Vancouver Island furnishes
me with exquisite natural images. I constantly experiment with
new techniques and products to incorporate reality into my quilts.
I want to draw my viewer into the scene to experience and enjoy
the beauty that surrounds me.
My second passion, which I find so rewarding, is teaching and
encouraging students to find their own paths and discover the
artist within themselves on their quilting journey.
