I am very pleased to introduce Cindy Obuck. She is an exciting
young artist who is rapidly making a name for herself in her home
province of Saskatchewan. The influence of her surroundings is
often apparent in the colours and materials she uses. She is a
graphic artist and web designer by profession. Though she is a
self-taught fibre artist, her design training informs her work.
|
Cindy experiments with many materials but regardless of the
medium, her work seems to maintain an earthy groundedness. I
expect we will see much more of her work in the future. I hope
you will enjoy looking at the work of my friend, Cindy Obuck.

Cindy Obuck- Artist statement:
I have always had an interest in art, however it wasn’t
until I discovered fibre art that I decided to follow my passion.
I have a certificate in graphic design and work full time as
a graphic/web designer. I am a self taught artist, but feel
my work experience has helped me in designing my own art.
I enjoy using various materials in my art such as organza, cheese
cloth, papers, chiffons, yarns and beads. I also enjoy painting
my own fabrics or using wax and pencil crayons to emphasize
various designs. This year, I have also been exploring felting
and chenille techniques.
While I have taken workshops from a couple of well established
artists, the majority of my work has evolved by self exploration
with abstract compositions. I take great pleasure in seeing
the various textures and fibres evolve from an idea into a piece
of art.

This
piece was created by wet felting dyed alpaca fibres together.
Various yarns were used in the felting process as well.
It is embellished with beads and hangs freely on its background.
It reminds me of walking through our valleys.

This
piece is wet felted alpaca that has been double quilted
with machine and hand stitching. I have further enhanced
it by placing it on a background of satin and velour.
One of the many wheat fields we have across the Prairies.
