Matt is one of a new generation of quilters. He is young, energetic and technologically savvy. Matt along with his wife Bradie is the owner of Sparrow Studioz. He is a representative for APQS and he offers longarm quilting services. In addition he has established a gallery in his studio with the aim of selling quilted works to collectors and interior designers. He is an accomplished teacher and longarm quilter. Matt Sparrow - Artist statement:
I am a fairly new quilter, introduced to needle and thread in 2005 by my wife and mother-in-law. Although most male quilters tend to lean towards modern, abstract styles of quilting, I find my attention is constantly diverted to traditional piecing and stitching. Nothing turns me on more as a quilter than a Trapunto’d Wholecloth. What started me off as a longarm quilter in my living room in 2008 quickly grew to a 3000 sq ft studio/gallery in the Strathearn district of Edmonton, AB where we feature the work of local and international fibre artists.

The studio side of our shop is where I work on client’s quilts often filling my days with teaching others to use the longarm quilting machine and guiding them through the process of finishing their own quilts. This is by far the most rewarding part of my job.

I also rent space to two other longarm quilters who keep their machine in our studio which gives me the opportunity to host world famous teachers. This year alone we will see the likes of Sue Patten(March) Deloa Jones(June) Myrna Ficken(October) and Karen McTavish(December).

Playing with thread colors and a piece of black muslin I created this fun piece that I plan to re-create as a queen sized wholecloth bed quilt.
