AFRICAN THREADS: for the Grandmother to Grandmother Campign

Val Hearder has started a new project selling charming hand-embroidered folk art textiles from South Africa.

It is an iniative to do something to help alleviate the suffering the unfolding HIV/AIDS pandemic that's ravaging Africa. She is
donating 15% of all profits to the Grandmother-to-Grandmother Campaign Campaign run by the Stephen Lewis Foundation, thus benefiting the women in Africa twice, first by buying their embroideries, then giving the profits back to The Grandmothers Campaign.

The stitches and threads in these beautiful hangings are symbolic of the strength of the grandmothers who, in dire situations, hold their fragile families and communities together by caring for the millions of orphans left behind by HIV/AIDS. For many of the women stitching embroidery is their only means of support. I find these hangings so charming, optimistic, and poignant.

To purchase a piece visit www.africanthreads.ca.

Drop Valerie an email to get on her African threads mailing list so you can find out when new textiels arrive. val@valerie hearder.com.

To find out more about HIV/AIDS in Africa and the Grandmothers-to-Grandmothers Campaign please visit the Stephen Lewis Foundation.
